Étoile Noire BIOGRAPHY

Intimate, emotional indie folk flavoured Ottawa-based acoustic duo Étoile Noire, stretch the limits of earth-roots acts such as Jim Croce & Gordon Lightfoot. Embodied with coarse-rich vocals and infused with quirky harmonies comparable to The Strokes and Daniel Victor, the art itself is truly their own. Formed in 2016 around the talents of vocalists-guitarists Fabien Melanson and Justin Trudeau, the Canadian duo carried out two east-coast tours, and southern Ontario with a debut title "Gone" was released in 2017, and latest "Lights Out" in 2018.

The alt-folk storytelling self-titled 9 track album is uniquely written mixing both official languages. Memories of opening for Canadian acts such as: "The Trews", "Jeff Martin of Tea Party" and "Julian Taylor Band" is fuel to the timber on the flames of their next album.

REVIEWS

“One such night of amazing acoustic music at Fourth Baptist Church on September 8 featured a sold-out performance by Canadian rock staples, the Trews, and Ottawa’s own Étoile Noire”

Emily Plunkett on September 13, 2018, Canadian Beats

Étoile Noire featured in a Musicoin TV episode. The hosts state that the music is  "very professionnal" & "...this is deep, much love to everyone who's loved one is far away". Hosts also state that "the music is very meaningful".

A design for music consumption in the 21st century and beyond. Musicoin is designed to support the creation, publication, and consumption of music as a cycle...

“As the country scene continues to grow in Ottawa, it's great to see more bands trying to evolve it. Etoile Noire's self-titled debut finds them taking parts country, indie-rock and a little modern pop and mix it all together for something fun and fresh. The dark overtones of "Native Girl" create a foreboding mood right from the get-go, as it sizzles”

— By Owen Maxwell, Ottawa Life Magazine, November 29, 2017

"A short but sweet half-hour set by Ottawa-based duo Etoile Noire drew a roomful of listeners into The Papery at Bank and Fifth early Friday night. The two stood side-by-side in the store front nook, armed with guitars and mics, to deliver their Canadiana blend of country, folk, and roots/rock"

Terry Steeves, Apt 613, September 16, 2017

“Two Ottawa musicians, Justin Trudeau and Fabien Melanson, stood on opposite sides of the stage, acoustic guitars in hand, one who played left and the other who played right. Already I could see a sense of balance established, but when they began to play and sing, the chemistry between the two was evident”
